Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center presents The Tara Grant Memorial 5K Run/3K Walk. The run/walk began in 2007 as a way for Tara's family to use her legacy to promote domestic violence awareness. In its first year, the event attracted more than 200 participants. It was featured in the Detroit Free Press, and was covered by several local news stations including Local 4 and Channel 7. Alicia Standerfer has graciously agreed to chair the event again this year, and we are expecting an even bigger turnout!

The event features a 5K Cross Country run, a 3K walk, and a 30-yard dash especially for the kids. A clown is on hand to provide a show for the children, and raffle prizes are generously donated by many local businesses. Refreshments are provided to all participants, including a hot dog lunch.

More than 300 people participated in a special fundraiser Friday night to raise money for the children of slain mother Tara Grant.

The event was held at Greystone Golf and Banquet Center in Washington Township, which donated the facility and staff for the evening. Event organizer Camille Baker said the fundraiser was more popular than she ever imagined.

"We didn't know what to expect at first, but we're very pleased with the turnout," she said. "It's great that everyone came out for this."

The show, called "Salute to the Superstars," featured celebrity impersonators singing, dancing and mingling with the crowd. There were two shows -- one at 6:30 p.m. and one at 9 p.m.
